Vibe Coding with Kiro
Install Amazon Kiro
Amazon Kiro is the AI-powered code editor you will use to make changes to the project with natural language prompts.
Download Kiro
- Open your browser and go to kiro.dev
- Click the Download button
- Select the macOS version (the website should detect your platform automatically)
The download is a .dmg file, similar to how you install most Mac apps.
Install Kiro
- Open the downloaded
.dmgfile - Drag the Kiro icon into the Applications folder (you will see the standard macOS install window)
- Close the installer window
- Open Kiro from your Applications folder (or use Cmd + Space and search for "Kiro")
macOS security prompt
The first time you open Kiro, macOS may show a dialog saying the app is from an unidentified developer. If this happens, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down, and click Open Anyway next to the Kiro message.
Sign in with single sign-on
When Kiro opens for the first time, it will ask you to sign in:
- Click Sign in or Get Started
- Select the single sign-on (SSO) option
- Sign in with your Amazon corporate credentials
- Once signed in, the browser will redirect you back to Kiro
Use SSO, not Builder ID
As an Amazon employee, you must sign in with single sign-on (SSO) using your corporate credentials. Do not create or use an AWS Builder ID for this workshop.
Verify Kiro is ready
Once you are signed in, you should see the Kiro welcome screen or an empty editor window. You are now ready to open your project in Kiro.
